With a population of at least 23,000 people, Alegria town is one of the quiet places in Cebu that boasts a lot of natural beauty. Here are the enchanting places you can visit in this Southwestern town, only a 3 hour and 30 minute ride from Cebu City.

1. Cliff Dive at Cambais Falls

  • Description: Cambais Falls is a tall beautiful water curtain that encompasses three major levels and 5 different drops. The falls is also a place most frequented for cliff-diving and swimming.
  • Location: Barangay Guadalupe, Alegria, Cebu (about an hour away from Moalboal or 30 minutes further south from Kawasan Falls)
  • How to get there: From the Cebu South Bus Terminal, ride any bus bound for Barili. Inform the driver to drop you off at the Sangi junction in Alegria. From there, ride a habal-habal or motorcycle to the drop-off point going to the falls. Fare for bus is about PHP 170.00 per head per way. Fare for motorcycle is about PHP 75.00 per head per way.
  • From the drop-off point, you will walk for about 20 minutes before you reach to Cancalanog.
  • Tip: Make prior arrangements with a habal-habal driver to pick you up at a later time since motorcycles do not usually pass by the area.

  • Location: Sangi, Alegria, southern Cebu (right before Cambais Falls and 1-hour away from Moalboal). 3 hours away from the city proper.

5. Chill and Relax at Sun-Xi Mountain Retreat

  • Description: Despite it being far from the town’s main, the amazing scenery will be worth the ride. The route in going to the place is not that glamorous. You will pass some houses. You will see a view of the blue ocean and enjoy the breathtaking natural light from the sun. (I hope it does not rain though).
  • Location: Alegria, Cebu ( Sun Xi Mountain Retreat is approximately a 30-minute ride from the town of Alegria, Cebu)

    1. You can ride the bus with a sign board “Bato-Barili via Moalboal”. Just tell the driver you will be hoping off at Alegria Heritage Park.
    2. Sun Xi can provide a free shuttle from Heritage Park, Alegria to Sun Xi Mountain Retreat.

6. Kawayan Festival

  • Description: To make it not totally new, the festival is made to coincide with the town’s anual fiesta celebrations in honor of their patron saint. In this case, Alegria celebrates St Francis Xavier annually on December 2-3. It also celebrates the town’s one main sources of livelihood – bamboo.

7. Spelunk at Salay Cave

It is one of the hidden treasures of Alegria that is gradually gaining the attention of spelunkers and cave enthusiast. The caves offer beautiful sights and wonder and are perfect places to hide for a while.

8. Cambusay Cave

  • Description: The Cambusay Cave has a vast opening which light pass through and comes in presenting its magnificent beauty. The cave is not advisable for newbies to explore. 9. Mt. Lanaya

  • Description: Mt. Lanaya is around 700 meters above sea level to the point that the panoramic view of the vast ocean and the mountains of Negros Province can be effortlessly observed. It is dubbed as the most difficult mountain to trek with because of its steep slope and landfill pattern.
  • Location: Barangay Legaspi, Alegria, Southwestern Cebu — 3 hours away from the city.

    1. From the South Bus Terminal, ride a bus bound for Bato, Samboan, or any bus going southwest Alegria. Ask the driver to drop you off at the Alegria town proper. Fare is PHP 155 (one way).
    2. From the town proper, you can either take a habal-habal (motorcycle) going to Barangay Lumpan or if you have enough time and want to try the challenging Legaspi trail, proceed to Barangay Legaspi.

10. Baluarte
