Boljoon is one of the oldest towns in southern Cebu. It is also the quaintest and picturesque. Its narrow coastal plains are bordered by cliff and luxuriant hills; which offers a commanding view of the Bohol Strait. Boljoon therefore is hemmed in by tall mountain ranges with residual natural forests making it ” THE ONLY POSTCARD TOWN IN THE ENTIRE PROVINCE OF CEBU”.

1. Reach Ablayan Peak

  • Description: Visit, camp or just maybe reach the peak of the Ablayan. You can also go there without hiking, just ride a habal-habal or motorcycle.
  • Location: Malabuyoc, Cebu
  • How to Get There: From south bus terminal, ride a Bus to boljoon. Be sure to ask the conductor to drop you off at public market .From boljoon market ,ride habalh-habal or motorcycle going to Ablayan peak.

2. Visit Cirilo Sestoso Ancestral House

  • Description: The oldest house in town built by “Kapitan Iyoy/Atang Iyoy” Sestoso in 1881. It has a rectangular shape of plan. It features detailed ornamentation at the gutter. It has a patched geometrical center wall in between window panels.
  • Location: Patrocinio de Maria St, Boljoon, Cebu

  • Note: The owners of the place are not allowing visitors to enter the house anymore since it is costly to maintain it.

3. Watch the Dr. Dionisio Niere Ancestral House

  • Description: Built in 1928, the house has a formal symmetrical facade with a truncated main roof. its distinctive characteristics is a protruding vestibule which extends up to the second floor. During the second World War, the house was used as headquarters by the Japanese Imperial Army. Dr. Dionisio Niere was the first Boljoanon Doctor of Medicine and master of the 1935 constitutional convention.

  • Description: The second most popular landmark in Boljoon next to the Parish Complex. It is a natural rock formation which serves as an impressive backdrop to the simple dwellings of the Boljo-anons.

6. Dayhag Falls

  • Description: The name of the waterfalls was derived from what older residents in the area say about the place. They say “ga-dayhag kuno ang tubig” or “the water is cascading.” The Dayhag Falls is located in Barangay Upper Beceril in the southern town of Boljoon.

7. Escuela Catolica

  • Description: Escuela Catolica used to be a dormitory for children taking their first communion, built in 1940. But now, though the place is still fully functional, it now serves as a meeting place for the women serving the church.

8. Boljoon Parish Museum

  • Description: Located inside Patrocinio de Maria Church, Boljoon Parish Museum boasts historical artifacts replete with background that will take you back to what Boljoon is centuries ago. 
  • Location: Natalio Bacalso Avenue, Boljoon, Cebu
  • Operating Hours: 9:00 am – 5:00 pm; Tues-Sun
  • How to Get There: Simply go to Cebu South Bus Terminal and look for buses bound for Samboan. Be sure to inform the conductor to drop you off at Samboan. From there, hire a motorcycle to take you there.

9. Boljoon Church

  • Description: Over a 400 year old church, Patricio de Maria Church puts you across on the Spanish era. The church is enriched with intricate carvings and paintings and bass relief. In 2001, the National Museum declared it as a National Cultural Treasure.
  • Location: Natalio Bacalso Avenue, Boljoon, Cebu
  • How to Get There: Simply go to Cebu South Bus Terminal and look for buses bound for Samboan. Be sure to inform the conductor to drop you off at Samboan. From there, hire a motorcycle to take you there.

10. Hunt for Delicacy

  • Description: When you visit Boljoon, be sure to taste their torta (a type of cake) and their egg yolk cookies.
  • Location: Boljoon, Cebu
