Sogod, officially the Municipality of Sogod, is a 4th class municipality in the province of Cebu, Philippines – According to everybody’s friend wiki.

The municipality has a land area of 119.23 square kilometers or 46.03 square miles which constitutes 2.41% of Cebu’s total area.

1. Binaliw Spring

About ten (10) to fifteen (15) minutes away from the main road is a cold water spring attracted by many devoted tourists because of its capability to heal any form of sickness.

The grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes was built by authorities where the water springs.

Some people use the water from this waterfall and spring to cure various sorts of illnesses by drinking it, using as a mixture in ointment, as antiseptic, bathing in the spring, or in every way the believer can use the water for the expected healing effect.

Due to the popular belief of Binaliw’s healing effects, many dubbed it as the ‘priestess of nature

2. Ongon Spring

Tucked in the outskirts of Barangay Ongon, Sogod, Cebu is the not-so known Ongon Falls. It is untouched and undisturbed waterfalls in the area.

This is not an established tourist destination and locals simply refer to it as “busay”.

The trek to Ongon Falls offers a trail that you cannot play down. From rugged rocks and loose soil, one needs to go through the steep descend.

3. Bagatayam Falls

Bagatayam Falls is approximately 5 meters or 15ft deep-water falls located in Barangay Bagatayam, Sogod, Cebu.

The waterfalls has been a great support to the Sogod Waterworks system since it turned into their fundamental source of water.

To find this famous cold spring, you need to take a habal-habal (motorbike) for Binaliw Spring from Sogod Public Market (around 15-20pesos).

However, if you want to you can tell the bus/van driver or conductor to drop you off at Bagatayam Bridge.

Right there you can find a road sign pointing a direction for the cold spring (“Binaliw Spring, Birhen sa Lourdes Shrine, Ecological Park, Calvary Hill”).

4. North Sky Beach Resort

North Sky Beach Resort is a fancy resort located in the northern part of Cebu Province, Philippines.

It can be easily accessed by public transportation since it is established along the national highway in this municipality. It has a prominent signage.

The property extends all the way to the beach. The driveway leads to the parking area.

6. Caves

As what the municipality of Sogod said, it has more than 20 caves with flying flocks of bats from the caves at dusk.

To name a few are the -Langob Cave, Calumboyan Cave, Mahubaho Cave, Mag-aso Cave, Ongon Cave, Dao Cave, Buyog Cave, etc.

7. Budbud kabog

Bud-bud kabog or “Budbud” is the sister of puto maya. Kabog milled is used to make the cakes, which are the color of a bat (the literal meaning of kubog).

8. Panagsogod Festival

There’s also the town’s Panagsogod Festival that showcases Sogod’s cultural heritage and natural wonders, held in time for the annual fiesta of St. James the Apostle, on July 25.

The locals said that they held this event so that they can give thanks for the blessings they receive each year.

The term “panagsogod” means the beginning in Cebuano.

9. Our Lady of Lourdes Shrine (Binaliw Spring)
