How to Get to Lake Janagdan
✓ OPTION 1 (BY JEEPNEY/MULTICAB)
Entry Point is in ORMOC PORT.
CHECK FAST CRAFT SCHEDULE & FARE HERE
- From the port, walk to Ormoc City Terminal near the Ormoc Public Market/2go Express ticketing.
- Then, ride a jeepney/multicab bound for Lake Danao. Be sure to inform the driver that you will hop off at Jump off Point of Lake Janagdan at Brgy. Cabintan. Fare is PHP 30 ( SGD$ 0.75 ,US$ 0.6, € 0.5). Travel time is about 20 minutes.
- You can either ask for Ramil Morales, the head of Cabintan Local Eco Guides (CaLEGUID), or register at the Ormoc city tourism office.
(HOMEBOUND)
- Wait for a jeepney/multicab in the area or ride a habal-habal.
- Note: Multi-cabs are available for a certain period of time so you can wait for multi-cabs.
✓ OPTION 2 (BY BOAT W/ BUS/VAN)
Entry Point is in CEBU PIER 4 via HILONGOS

- From Pier 4, ride the Slow Boats (Roble Shipping Lines or Gabisan Lines) & Fast Boat (MV Superjoy) bound for Hilongos. Fare is about PHP 310.00 ( SGD$ 6.89, US$ 6.2, € 5.17) – PHP 2,000.00 ( SGD$ 44.45, US$ 40, € 33.33) for Slow Boats and PHP 550.00 ( SGD$ 12.23, US$ 11, € 9.17) for Fast Boats/Crafts. Travel Time is about 5-6 hours for the slow boats and 2-3 hours for the fast boat.
- Then walk or ride a motorcycle to Hilongos Public Terminal.
- At the Market, ride a bus/van to Ormoc. Travel Time is about 2 hours and 30 minutes. Fare is PHP 200.00 – PHP 350.00 ( SGD$ 5.00 ,US$ 4.0, € 3.33) – ( SGD$ 8.75 ,US$ 7.0, € 5.83).
- Once you reached Ormoc Terminal, ride a jeepney/multicab bound for Lake Danao. Be sure to inform the driver that you will hop off at Jump off Point of Lake Janagdan at Brgy. Cabintan. Fare is PHP 30 ( SGD$ 0.75 ,US$ 0.6, € 0.5). Travel time is about 20 minutes.
- You can either ask for Ramil Morales, the head of Cabintan Local Eco Guides (CaLEGUID), or register at the Ormoc city tourism office.
(HOMEBOUND)
- Wait for any bus/van in the area or ride a habal-habal/motorcycle.
- Note: You can arrange for your motorcycle driver to wait for you so that you won’t have a hard time going out of the area.
✓ OPTION 3 (BY BOAT W/ BUS/VAN)
Entry Point is in CEBU PIER 4 via BAYBAY.

- From Pier 4, ride the Slow Boats (RORO Ferries) & Fast Boat (MV Superjoy) bound for Hilongos. Fare is about PHP 310.00 ( SGD$ 6.89, US$ 6.2, € 5.17) – PHP 2,000.00 ( SGD$ 44.45, US$ 40, € 33.33) for Slow Boats and PHP 580.00 ( SGD$ 12.89, US$ 11.6, € 9.67) for Fast Boats/Crafts. - Then walk to Baybay Transportation Terminal.
- At the terminal, ride a VAN/BUS bound for Ormoc. Fare is PHP 200.00 – PHP 350.00 ( SGD$ 5.00 ,US$ 4.0, € 3.33) – ( SGD$ 8.75 ,US$ 7.0, € 5.83) . Travel time is about 1 hour and 30 minutes.
- Once you reached Ormoc Terminal, ride a jeepney/multicab bound for Lake Danao. Be sure to inform the driver that you will hop off at Jump off Point of Lake Janagdan at Brgy. Cabintan. Fare is PHP 30 ( SGD$ 0.75 ,US$ 0.6, € 0.5). Travel time is about 20 minutes.

✓ OPTION 5 (BY AIRPLANE & BUS/VAN) (From Cebu or Manila)
- There are actually daily flights from Manila to Tacloban and Cebu to Tacloban. The flight takes at least an hour and twenty (20) minutes if your entry point is Manila. Air travel takes about forty-five (45) minutes or less if your entry point is Cebu.
- After arriving at Tacloban Domestic Airport (San Jose, Tacloban City), go to Tacloban City Bus Terminal via taxicab or transfer service.
- From Tacloban City Bus Terminal, one can easily go to the Ormoc by taking a three-hour bus or van ride bound for Ormoc.
- Once you reached Ormoc Terminal, ride a jeepney/multicab bound for Lake Danao. Be sure to inform the driver that you will hop off at Jump off Point of Lake Janagdan at Brgy. Cabintan. Fare is PHP 30 ( SGD$ 0.75 ,US$ 0.6, € 0.5). Travel time is about 20 minutes.

What’s in Lake Janagdan?
Lake Janagdan is located in the eastern part of Ormoc and is part of the Mt. Aminduen ranges. It measures 1120masl and is surrounded by lush and diverse vegetation. Various plant species can be found, with ferns, vines, and trees covered with mosses. Different types of insects often crawl along the trail too.
The Lake Janagdan is next to Alto Peak and has a length of 0.57 kilometers, this is a breathtaking crater lake occupying the caldera of mount Janagdan, the lake completes the Ormoc’s three lakes, lake Janagdan is the smallest of the three but it is accessible only by foot.
Lake Janagdan is one of the lakes that the ormocanon is proud of, especially for the resident there, when you are going to watch the lake nearby you will surely amaze by its beauty and how it is designed by nature, that’s why many tourists have the guts to go there just to see how beautiful the Lake Janagdan is.
Be prepared, for 1-2 hours of trekking/hiking to Lake Janagdan.
There are many other things to do while in Ormoc. Besides Lake Janagdan, there are two other lakes in the city – Lake Danao and Lake Kasudsuran. Each lake has an adventure waiting! The hiking is fabulous at Alto Peak. This is the highest mountain in the Eastern Visayas. It is a favorite mountain climb. It is an excellent climb for beginning climbers.
There are also Sayahan Falls and Tres Aguas Waterfalls.

They do not sell any food or drinks in the area so you might bring your own. You might need this one, especially on a hot sunny day.

How much are the Entrance Fee and Other Noted Fees?
PHP 25.00 – Registration fee per person.
PHP 500.00 – Guide Fee for every 5 hikers.
PHP 300.00 – Guide Fee for one day tour
PHP 500.00 – Guide Fee for overnight
Note: If you want help carrying your water, lunch, and trail food, you may ask the guide to carry them for you for a minimal tip. For groups, you can share one pack of up to 20 kilos to be carried by one porter for a fee of P500.

TIPS, NOTES, AND REMINDERS
- Bring extra clothes so that in every corner, the outfit is different.
- Visit on weekdays to avoid the crowd.
- Bring water so that you can’t be dehydrated.
- The cut-off time for visiting the falls is 2 pm.
- You can Climb Lake Janagdan on Day 1. Overnight Camping at the base of Mt. Aminduen then climbing the summit (Alto Peak) on Day 2.

- Traveling solo or with a partner? There are habal-habal rides that can take you to Barangay Cabintan for about PHP 200 per person and per way (Not sure about the rate, though).
- Practice the LEAVE NO TRACE principles.
- Pack at least 3 liters of water.
- There’s a water source and a waterfall near the campsite.
- Bring trail food/snacks.
- Bring ION drinks like Gatorade or Pocari Sweat.
- Wear trekking shoes or sandals with great traction.
- Pack a tent.
- Pack a cook set, and cook your food.
- Pack full-fingered gloves, leggings, and arm guards.
- Use your legs, when using the ropes. You’ll be swaying from side to side if you don’t use them.
- Only Smart has a stable mobile signal in Barangay Cabintan.
- Do some preparation climbs, before hiking Alto Peak, to improve your endurance as well as enhance your confidence.
- You may also camp at Heaven’s Peak for PHP 100 per night. You can take a shower there, for PHP 25.
- You can also take a day hike to Alto Peak, if you’re short on time. However, you’re not going to see Lake Janagdan if you take the day hike option.
