How to Get to Kuapnit Balinsasayao National Park

OPTION 1 (BY TRICYCLE)

Entry Point is in ORMOC PORT.

CHECK FAST CRAFT SCHEDULE & FARE HERE

  • From the port, walk to Ormoc City Terminal near the Ormoc Public Market/2go Express ticketing.
  • Then, ride a VAN or MetroBus bound for Baybay. Fare for Van is PHP 120.00 ( SGD$ 3.00, US$ 2.67, € 2.4). The fare for MetroBus is PHP 85.00 ( SGD$ 2.13, US$ 1.89, € 1.42). Travel time is about 1 hour and 30 minutes.
  • At Baybay Terminal, ride a motorcycle going to Brgy. Villa Solidaridad. Travel time is about 15-20 minutes.
  • At Brgy. Villa Solidaridad, you may hail a motorcycle or walk going to the Sky Cafe Sea of Clouds.

OPTION 2 (BY BOAT W/ BUS/VAN)

Entry Point is in CEBU PIER 4 via HILONGOS

  • From Pier 4, ride the Slow Boats (Roble Shipping Lines or Gabisan Lines) & Fast Boat (MV Superjoy) bound for Hilongos. Fare is about PHP 310.00 ( SGD$ 6.89, US$ 6.2, € 5.17) – PHP 2,000.00 ( SGD$ 44.45, US$ 40, € 33.33) for Slow Boats and PHP 550.00 ( SGD$ 12.23, US$ 11, € 9.17) for Fast Boats/Crafts. Travel Time is about 5-6 hours for the slow boats and 2-3 hours for the fast boat.
  • Then walk or ride a motorcycle to Hilongos Public Terminal.
  • At the Market, ride a bus/van to Baybay. Travel Time is about 2 hours and 30 minutes. Fare is PHP 200.00 – PHP 350.00 ( SGD$ 5.00 ,US$ 4.0, € 3.33) – ( SGD$ 8.75 ,US$ 7.0, € 5.83).
  • At Baybay Terminal, ride a motorcycle going to Brgy. Villa Solidaridad. Travel time is about 15-20 minutes.
  • At Brgy. Villa Solidaridad, you may hail a motorcycle or walk going to the Sky Cafe Sea of Clouds.

OPTION 3 (BY BOAT W/ BUS/VAN)

Entry Point is in CEBU PIER 4 via BAYBAY.

  • Then walk to Baybay Transportation Terminal and ride a motorcycle going to Brgy. Villa Solidaridad. Travel time is about 15-20 minutes.

  • From Pier 1, ride the Slow Boat bound (Cokaliong Shipping Lines, Inc. and Roble Shipping Lines, Inc) or From Pier 3, ride the Fast Craft (Oceanjet or 2Go) for Ormoc. Fare is about PHP 500.00 ( SGD$ 12.5, US$ 10, € 8.33) for Slow Boats and PHP 1100.00 ( SGD$ 27.5, US$ 22, € 18.33) for Fast Boats/Crafts. Travel Time is about 5-6 hours for the slow boats and 2-3 hours for the fast boat.
  • From the port, walk to Ormoc City Terminal near the Ormoc Public Market/2go Express ticketing.

OPTION 6 (BY AIRPLANE & BUS/VAN) (From Cebu or Manila)

  • There are actually daily flights from Manila to Tacloban and Cebu to Tacloban. The flight takes at least an hour and twenty (20) minutes if your entry point is Manila. Air travel takes about forty-five (45) minutes or less if your entry point is Cebu.
  • After arriving at Tacloban Domestic Airport (San Jose, Tacloban City), go to Tacloban City Bus Terminal via taxicab or transfer service. 
  • From Tacloban City Bus Terminal, one can easily go to the Ormoc by taking a two-hour bus or van ride bound for Baybay. Ask to be dropped at Van-Van’s or Duptours terminal for a van for Baybay.
  • At the terminal, Hop on a Van-van’s or Duptours van en route to Maasin City, Southern Leyte via Baybay city. The van fare is P150 and the trip usually takes about two hours.

With a total area of more than 45,000 hectares, Baybay is one of the biggest cities in the area. In addition to being the location of Mount Pangasugan, which has earned the moniker “the last surviving frontier in Eastern Visayas” due to its exceptional biodiversity, the city is also home to the Kuapnit Balinsasayao National Park.

 It was declared a national park in 1937 by virtue of Proclamation No. 142.

The park is covered in most parts by old-growth forest. It is home to three bird species endemic to the Eastern Visayas region, the Samar hornbill, Visayan broadbill, and yellow-breasted tailorbird. The Philippine deer, Philippine warty pig and tarsier are also found here.

National Parks

National parks refer to forest reservations essentially of natural wilderness character which have been withdrawn from settlement, occupancy or any form of exploitation except in conformity with approved management plan and set aside as such exclusively to conserve the area or preserve the scenery, the natural and historic objects, wild animals and plants therein and to provide enjoyment of these features in such areas.

Kuapnit Balinsasayao National Park lies at the southern fringe of the Anonang-Lobi Mountain Range, popularly known as the Leyte Cordillera that runs north to south through western Leyte. This cordillera consists the highest peaks in Leyte Island including Mount Burauen Graben, Mount Camaiyak and Mount Lobi, the highest at 1,346 m. Mount Maganjan at 754 m. is the most prominent peak nearest to the park.

There are also 16,000 LED Roses at Lintaon Peak, Sea of Clouds at Sky Cafe, and Historical Immaculate Conception Parish, Baybay.
