Jeju Island

Jeju Island South Korea Visa Free

Jeju Island is the largest island in South Korea. It was formed when an underwater volcano erupted, millions of years ago. It’s also a favorite destination for a nature adventure, as it is home to beautiful beaches and the highest mountain in South Korea, Mount Hallasan. 

The visa-free travel to Jeju Island resumed on June 1, 2022, after it was suspended due to the pandemic. Here is the current list of eligibility, as of writing:

  • Philippine passport holders are eligible to enter Jeju Island visa-free. 
  • Filipino tourists can enter the island with stay for up to 30 days. 
  • Since there are no direct flights from the Philippines to Jeju Island, you may transit via these nearby airports:
    – Changi Airport in Singapore
    – Taoyuan International Airport in Taipei, Taiwan
    – Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) in Bangkok, Thailand

Visa-free implementation period: starting June 1, 2022 

Gangwon Province via Yangyang

Gangwon Province South Korea Visa Free

Yangyang is an underrated destination located in the Gangwon Province of South Korea. It’s known for being a surfing spot, so if you’re a beach lover and a fan of watersports, you’ll definitely love the vibe here. It’s also just a few hours away from Seoul.

Like Jeju Island, Gangwon allows visa-free entry for Filipinos, starting on June 1. Here are things you need to know before you visit.

  • Philippine passport holders may enter via Yangyang visa-free. 
  • Tourists must have booked a tour program from one of the accredited travel agencies.
  • Filipino tourists must be fully vaccinated.
  • Tourists must also fly in and out of Yangyang International Airport on the same flight with the tour group composed of five or more people.
  • You may visit Gangwon Province and the Seoul Metropolitan Area.
  • You’ll be given a B-2-94 or a Tourist/transit visa instead of a short-term visa. 
  • You may stay up to 15 days in Yangyang. 
  • You must be accompanied by a local guide and you shall pay a service fee.
  • You must agree to give your personal information necessary for the tour. 

Visa-free implementation period: June 1, 2022, to May 31, 2023 

Jeolla Province via Muan

The most recent Korean province to open to tourists visa-free is Jeolla, a southwestern province in South Korea. What most people love about Jeollanam-do, is their mouthwatering local dishes, beaches, temples, and festivals. There’s so much to explore here, and if you prefer laidback trips, this one’s for you.

  • Philippine passport holders may visit Jeolla and enter via the Muan International Airport only.
  • Interested tourists are allowed to visit North Jeolla Province, South Jeolla Province, Gwangju Metropolitan City, and Jeju Island.
  • Like Yangyang, you’ll be given a B-2-94 or a Tourist/transit visa instead of a short-term visa. 
  • You’ll be allowed to visit for up to 15 days.

Visa-free implementation period: March 15, 2023, to March 31, 2024

TIPS, NOTES, AND REMINDERS

  • Bring extra clothes so that in every corner, the outfit is different.
  • Visit on weekdays to avoid the crowd.
  • Plan your visit ahead of time. The museum is open from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Tuesday to Sunday.
  • Buy your tickets in advance. You can buy your tickets online or at the museum’s ticket booth.
  • Bring your camera. There are many beautiful exhibits to photograph at the museum.
  • Wear comfortable shoes. There is a lot of walking involved at the museum.
  • Allow at least 2 hours to visit the museum. There are many exhibits to see and enjoy.
