What’s in The Mansion Baguion?

The Mansion House was built in 1908 to serve as the official summer residence of American governors-general at the insistence of Governor-General William Cameron Forbes. The name is derived from the summer cottage in New England of Governor Forbes whose administration the original Mansion House was built under. Architect William E. Parsons, based on preliminary plans by architect Daniel H. Burnham, the planner of the city of Baguio, designed the mountain retreat following the tenets of the City Beautiful Movement. In 1910, the meeting of the Second Philippine Legislature was held at the Mansion House for three weeks.

The Mansion was destroyed during the Battle of Baguio in 1945. It was rebuilt in 1946 and has been used by every Philippine president since then. The Mansion is a popular tourist destination and is open to the public for tours.

The Mansion is a two-story Spanish Colonial Revival-style building with a large garden. The main entrance is flanked by two Doric columns and there is a porte-cochere on the south side of the building. The interior of the Mansion is decorated with period furniture and artwork. There is a large dining room, a library, and a number of sitting rooms. The Mansion also has a swimming pool and tennis courts.
